Fertilizer Optimization is a DARB tool designed to help farmers make more informed decisions about fertilizer use based on their specific crop, soil conditions, and production environment.
Using farmer profiles and information from different agro-ecological zones, the tool assesses the appropriate fertilizer requirements for a crop enterprise and estimates the potential returns on investment. This helps farmers understand what inputs are needed, how much may be required, and the potential value of their investment before making production decisions.
Through GPS-enabled field mapping, DARB captures the location and shape of a farmer’s land by recording coordinates while the field is surveyed. This geographic information is then overlaid with digital soil maps developed by NARO, providing insights into the soil characteristics and conditions of the specific farm.
These insights help identify crops that are better suited to the land and guide farmers toward appropriate soil and crop management practices. By aligning crop selection with the characteristics of the soil and the local production environment, farmers can make more informed production decisions, improve productivity, and support the long-term sustainability of their land.
