Smallholder farming households face various risks that can disrupt production, income, and financial stability. Extreme weather events such as drought and excessive rainfall, as well as illness, accidents, and other health emergencies, can lead to crop losses, reduced income, unexpected medical costs, and other significant financial challenges.
To help address these risks, aXiom Zorn developed the AZ Bundle Insurance based on insights gathered through ongoing farmer engagement and agricultural data. The bundle combines Weather Index Insurance and Micro Health Insurance, providing financial protection against defined weather-related events and eligible health-related expenses, including hospitalization, illness, and accidents.
The AZ Bundle forms part of DARB’s broader ecosystem of agricultural data, financial inclusion, and risk protection. Farmer profiling and data collection provide insights into farming activities and household circumstances, while participation in the bundle creates an opportunity for farmers to access insurance protection and for the wider model to support the costs of collecting and managing agricultural data.
The insurance package is offered on a seasonal subscription basis and is designed for smallholder farmers cultivating approximately 1–5 acres, subject to applicable terms, eligibility, coverage limits, and conditions. By combining agricultural information with financial protection, the AZ Bundle aims to help farming households better manage the financial impact of unexpected agricultural and health-related shocks.
