Agronomic tips

To assist and support farmers with various value chains and achieve sound rates of growth and productivity, in close cooperation with soil, atmosphere and the crop among other key factors, Agronomic advice on DARB is disseminated to farmers via SMS and IVR. The service provides for information on;

  • Good Agricultural Practices
  • Cultivation techniques
  • Prudent Fertilizer use and application
  • Seed propagation
  • Postharvest handling technologies
  • Pest and disease control
  • Soil management
  • There are 10 crops covered under this DARB service which includes;

  • Beans
  • Soyabean
  • Matooke
  • Coffee
  • Sesame
  • Vegetables
  • Sunflower
  • Potatoes
  • Maize
  • Rice
  • The agronomic tips are shared on a weekly basis to the farmers and the design of the information shared is based on four key factors;

  • Value chain of the farmer
  • Growth stage of the crop
  • Geographical area
  • Weather forecast
  • Weather alerts

    Furthermore, to support agronomic advice, aXiom Zorn makes use of weather data that is currently provided under our insurance packages in a partnership with insurance service providers for all clients covered under the AZ bundle. The Evapotranspiration (ET) data is generated to establish the variabilities in water availability, Temperature, humidity, Wind among others in a season which is leveraged to package advisory content for farmers.
    With such detailed information from recognized research institutions, tailored advisory is made possible, guidance is extended to beneficiaries, on value chain development such as suitable crops, input requirements, and agronomic practices to priorities and that can be extended to farmers via interactive voice (IVR) and messaging services.
